Picking Pecks of Pickles
The 2017 pickling cucumber season will end on October 1 when we’ll pick the last of our crop.
Bushels and bushels of pickling cucumbers are picked almost daily and run through our giant sorting machine resulting in bags and bags ready for pickling. Our pickle fans wait all year for the special gherkins (smaller cucumbers) and buy them — sometimes by the trailer load — and can 100’s of jars of pickles. Succession planting of our fields means that we generally have pickling cucumbers from early August through the end of September.
Want the special smaller gherkin cucumbers? We pick and sort the cucumbers and they are available on days we pick them on a first come, first served basis in the store. They are generally ready around 10 a.m. on select weekdays and every weekend. We open at 9 a.m. and you can arrive anytime after that to add your name to our “gherkin list” for that day only. Have a larger order of more than 100 lbs? Call the store 503-621-3489 and talk to Farmer Don about getting yours.
